⚙️ SKU Formatting for Drop Shipping Integrations

If you're integrating your online store with our drop shipping service for automated order fulfillment, it's essential to use the correct SKU format to ensure smooth and error-free order processing. Below we talk about how our SKUs work, provide examples. We also discuss how to add new products or variants when new scents are released by Candle Builders.


Why our SKU's matter

Our SKU's contain all the proper information for our production team to produce the right candle product for your customer's order. It tells us which scent, jar color, jar size, label type and lid to use.

You have two options for your SKU's

Our SKU Only: You can simply send us our unique SKU. For example, "SB-2-WH-W23" is a valid SKU format.

Your SKU + Our SKU: If you prefer to include your own SKU identifier, you can add it before ours, separated by a dash. For example, "CATCANDLE-SB-2-WH-W23" is acceptable.

SKU Requirements

By following these simple guidelines, you'll ensure that your orders are processed accurately and efficiently, leading to faster delivery times and a smoother overall experience.

  • Include Our SKU

    Regardless of which SKU option you decide on, our SKU needs to be in the SKU field.

  • Character Limitations

    SKUs can only contain letters, numbers, and dashes. No other special characters, punctuation, or spaces are allowed

Understanding Our SKU System

Each part of our SKU means something special to our production team at Candle Builders. Below we break it down for you. Let's use SB-2-WH-W23 as an example. In each column, the BOLD part of the example SKU shows what it means and what the options are.

Making SKU Changes After A Product Goes Live

Generally, you can make SKU changes to existing products. You can also add new product variants (scents or lids options) only if the SKUs for the new product variant are updated to match.

Instructions For Adding A New Scent To Your Existing Store or Products

We use the Honeysuckle scent as an example, but these instructions can be applied to any new scent.

Honeysuckle is available as a scent in all drop shipping products on our Drop Shipping page. Placing an order for Honeysuckle is the same as placing an order for any other scent. 


👉 If you are integrated with us on Order Desk
In your sales channel(s), (Etsy, Amazon, etc) you can create a new  product or you can create a new option/variant for an existing product.  Either way, please be sure to follow the proper SKU patterns and use HS for the scent code part of the SKU.Example


🛒 If you are integrated with us on our Shopify App
In your Shopify Store, you can create a new product in our Candle Builders App or you can create a new option/variant for an existing product made from the Candle Builders App. Please note, a SKU change cannot change the artwork that will be printed to the label. If you want to sell a candle product with new label artwork, you need to create a new candle product in our Shopify App.


Adding Honeysuckle to existing Shopify products made in the Candle Builders Shopify App

  1. Click on any product that was created using the Candle Builders Shopify App.
  2. Duplicate any existing scent variant.
  3. Name the new variant Honeysuckle, or any name that you like
  4. In the variant SKU, change the 2 letter scent code to HS


Creating a new Shopify product with Honeysuckle in the Candle Builders Shopify App
Honeysuckle is a new scent option on all 9oz and 13.75oz jars.  Creating a new product wit the honeysuckle scent is the same as creating and new product.

Note: The new published product on Shopify may say the variant name as "Unknown Scent". This issue does not impact the app or product from working. You can change the variant name to "Honeysuckle" or any name that you like.
