If You're Using Our Legacy Shopify App and Have Questions About App 2.0, This Article Is for You
In June 2025, we phased out our old Shopify App, now called the Legacy App. Legacy App users will no longer be able to send their candle orders to us for production.
Candle Builders App 2.0 is the new app. It is faster, more reliable, and designed to support future upgrades, including support for Shopify, Etsy, Squarespace, and WooCommerce integrations.
🔄 Will My Legacy App Still Work?
No. The cutoff date for the Legacy App was June 20, 2025.
✅ What You Need to Do Right Now
Register to create a new App 2.0 account. 👉 Access App 2.0 Here >
Be sure to complete your App 2.0 profile and add a payment method to activate your account. Like our Legacy App, you will only pay for orders received.
📦 Was There an Automatic Migration from the Legacy App?
There was no automatic migration of your products or order history to App 2.0.
🤔 Can a Legacy App Client Start Over Fresh with App 2.0?
Yes. You can start making new products in App 2.0 and submit them to your Shopify store whenever you like.
Here are the steps to transition from our Legacy App to App 2.0:
This assumes you have created your App 2.0 account, added a payment method, and completed your profile.
- Before you do anything, create a backup of your products by exporting all of your products from your Products page in Shopify. This is only precautionary.
- In your Shopify store, find all candle products made by our Legacy App and save them to Draft Mode in Shopify. This will take them offline to prevent more orders from Legacy App created products.
- Create your new candle products from the App 2.0 catalog and submit them to your Shopify store. Need help? Use our ⚙️ App 2.0 Step-by-Step Set Up Guide
- Confirm that all Legacy App orders are processed and shipped by Candle Builders. If there are pending orders, you should wait before uninstalling our Legacy App. Make sure all products made by the Legacy App are in Draft mode.
- ✔️ Uninstall the Legacy App from your Shopify Store.

❌ DO NOT uninstall the Candle Builders App 2.0.
⚠️ Upgrading to App 2.0 means you need to create new candles in App 2.0, which will be sent to your Shopify Store as new products.
It will not replace the existing products made by our Legacy App.
We do not suggest deleting your products from your Shopify Store made in the Legacy App. Keeping them in draft mode will keep the products around to reference if needed. They can stay in draft mode indefinitely.
OPTIONAL: Matching Shopify URLs Between App 2.0 Products and Legacy Products
Let's assume you previously created products in our Shopify Legacy App and they were live in your Shopify Store. Now you are upgrading to App 2.0 and submitting those products to Shopify. Shopify will treat these as new products from the App 2.0 integration. This means the URL for the new App 2.0 product and the Legacy App product will be different.
The solution is to take your Legacy App created product, which needs to be in draft mode, and change the URL handle to something else. Then when your identical product is made in App 2.0 and sent to your Shopify Store, change that URL handle to match the original URL handle that the Legacy App product previously used.
In Shopify, go to the old product made by the Legacy App:
- Make sure the product is in Draft mode and saved.
- Scroll to the Search engine listing at the bottom. Click the edit icon.

- The section will expand. Find the URL handle at the bottom. The text after the "products/" can be copied and changed. Copy this URL and save it. For this example, the Legacy App created product URL handle is:
smells-like-you-need-a-beach-vacation-soy-candle
Note: Any changes you make to the URL handle cannot include spaces or punctuation marks.
- Add "-old" to the end of the URL handle so you know it is an old product. It will ask if you want to "Create a URL redirect..." and the checkbox will be pre-checked for you. DO NOT LET IT REDIRECT. UNCHECK THAT BOX.

Now your URL handle for the Legacy App product will be:
smells-like-you-need-a-beach-vacation-soy-candle-old
- Save the product.
Note: Two products in Shopify cannot share the same URL handle, even in draft mode. If you accidentally leave the redirect checked, you'll need to delete it later from Shopify's URL redirects menu (found at Content > Menus > URL redirects). For help with this, click here for Shopify's URL Redirect Guide.
In App 2.0:
- If you have not already, create the replacement product in App 2.0 and send it to your Shopify sales channel.
- Allow it 1 minute to fully populate all data in Shopify.
- In your Shopify Store, find the App 2.0 created product and click on it.
- Just like before, go down to the Search engine listing, click the edit icon, and find the URL handle. The automatically created URL handle could be anything. For this example, the App 2.0 created URL handle will be:
you-need-a-beach-vacation-candle
- Replace this URL handle:
you-need-a-beach-vacation-candle
with this URL handle:
smells-like-you-need-a-beach-vacation-soy-candle
- It will ask you if you want to Create a URL redirect and the checkbox will be pre-checked. Because this is a new App 2.0 product and the URL handle App 2.0 made for it was never used, it does not matter if you allow the redirect or not.
- Save the product.
Now the App 2.0 created candle is in your Shopify Store and uses the same URL handle as your Legacy App created product. There is no need to update any outside links that connected to that product page or worry about Google indexing concerns. This is also a good opportunity to review your SEO Title and Meta Description.
