Using App 2.0 With Etsy

Support & setup for your Etsy store connection to App 2.0

⚠️ Due to Etsy’s API limitations, shipping info does not transfer automatically.

Candle Builders has been authorized for commercial API access by Etsy, and we are actively working with them to remove this limitation. It remains unclear why this restriction applies to us but not to other print-on-demand platforms with the same commercial API access.
✅ What can App 2.0 do with Etsy right now?
When you make a product in App 2.0, you can submit that product to your connected Etsy store. To do this:
  • In your App 2.0 Products, select the product you want to send to Etsy.
  • Select Add To Channel at the top, then press the Add button.
The product will appear in Etsy in draft mode.
You can then review it in Etsy, make any adjustments you like, and activate it.
❓ What happens when you get an Etsy order with a candle submitted from App 2.0?
When an Etsy order comes through App 2.0:
  • All the product details and customer name will appear in your App 2.0 Orders.
  • However, the customer’s shipping address will not be included — due to the restriction mentioned above.

Steps you need to take to make sure the order ships. (Until Etsy resolves this issue)
  1. Go to Orders in App 2.0.
  2. Click on the Etsy order.
  3. Manually update the shipping address inside App 2.0 before we can process it.
Once the order ships:
  • Tracking will appear in App 2.0.
  • You will need to copy that tracking number into the Etsy order to mark it as shipped in your Etsy account.
😎 Work Around
There is a good work around for anyone with a Shopify store.

Using App 2.0, create your candle products as you normally would. Then, using App 2.0, send your candle product to your Shopify Store. Go to Products, select which one, select your Shopify store, and then add the candle product to your Shopify Store.

Next, find a 3rd party Shopify app that integrated your Shopify store to your Etsy store. In that 3rd party app, send your candle products from your Shopify store to your Etsy store.

At this point your App 2.0 candle products are alive in your Shopify store and your Etsy Store.

When you receive an Etsy order for one of our candle products, the 3rd party app will send  the order to your Shopify store. Then, App 2.0 will see the order in your Shopify store for one of our candle products and send that order back to App 2.0 for production. Once we ship the order, the tracking will update in App 2.0, your Shopify store, and your Etsy store.

If you do use this work around, please reach out to us and let us know. We will be happy to help with any questions that you may have.

😡 We are well aware that none of this is ideal
Frankly, it is extremely frustrating for us and you as our clients. We love Etsy and have sold 100,000+ candles for thousands of different clients through Etsy over the past 5 years.
🤔 Also, Candle Builders has been an approved Printify production partner for over four years, and we successfully dropship candles to Etsy customers every day through Printify’s platform. The only difference here is that the order is coming directly through your store via our App instead of through Printify.
😕 Etsy's policy on this is unclear and not published.
In October of 2024, they updated their shipping policy for customers and will only allow 3rd party shipping platforms like ShipStation to connect to Etsy to ship orders.
You can find this policy here:

However:
  • Etsy is applying this Etsy Seller shipping policy to Candle Builders. Candle Builder is not an Etsy Seller.
  • Candle Builders has an approved API commercial integration with Etsy.

😕 Etsy's House Rules clearly define their Terms of Use on their "Our House Rules" landing page. It provides a clear separation for the Terms of Use for Etsy Buyers, Etsy Sellers, and Third Party users like Candle Builders.

The October 2024 Etsy Shipping Policy is found in the Etsy Terms of Use for Etsy Sellers. It is not part ot Etsy's API Terms of Use.

To make matters more confusing, Candle Builders exclusively uses ShipStation to ship all of our drop shipping and wholesale orders.  When Etsy Developers were presented with this information, Etsy says it does not matter and our API restriction will remain in place.

Etsy is a publicly traded company. Their lack of transparency regarding their policies for Commercial API access is concerning.
✅ How you can help
If you want to help, please contact Etsy’s developers at:
📧 Developers@Etsy.com
Let them know:
  • You are an Etsy seller.
  • You are a client of Candle Builders.
  • You use our drop shipping program to send our handmade candles with your unique design.
  • This restriction is directly impacting your business.
Please be professional and kind in any emails you send.

🌟 Our Goal
Our goal is simple: We want Etsy to lift this unnecessary restriction so your orders can flow automatically through App 2.0 without the need for extra steps or work arounds.

We’ve built our system to fully support Etsy sellers and already use ShipStation—just like Etsy requires. There is no understandable reason this limitation should apply to Candle Builders or other fulfillment providers.
